SACRAMENTO –Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement today regarding Miramonte Elementary School:

“Like every member of the community, I have been sickened and appalled by the alleged abuse of students by teachers at Miramonte Elementary School. The safety of schoolchildren should be the paramount concern of every school, and the parents of Miramonte’s students deserve answers as to how the violation of students was allowed to occur.

Today’s decision by LAUSD to expand the scope of their investigation is the right call for our community. This is a deeply unsettling situation, and LAUSD needs to make it clear to the parents and students of our community that they are taking every action possible to remedy this situation and ensure the safety and security of students in the classroom.”
