SACRAMENTO – California Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) made the following statement on the release of preliminary federal funding allocations for local education agencies made possible by the bipartisan, bicameral support of SB 847, co-authored by Speaker Pérez and Senate President pro Tem Steinberg:
“This is welcome news for the thousands of California students, parents, and teachers for whom this has been a summer of uncertainty. I am pleased that Democratic and Republican members came together to approve our legislation allocating the additional federal funds to keep thousands of teachers working. Californians value education and want us to find a way to keep students learning and teachers in the classroom, and today's announcement by Superintendent O'Connell is a welcome step forward.”
