SACRAMENTO – Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) issued the following statement regarding today's votes in the Assembly on the Democratic and Republican budget plans:

"Today's budget vote was a positive step towards reaching a final compromise. While neither plan received the necessary two-thirds vote, we clearly showed that there is room for a compromise that reflects the values of Californians, especially job creation and education. Californians want and expect us to work together, and I genuinely believe that today's floor votes show that there is a pathway towards the necessary partnership. I will continue working with every Democratic and Republican member of the Assembly to reach a balanced, responsible budget that closes our deficit and lays the foundation for a return to prosperity."
