Assemblymember Pérez Foreclosure Prevention Workshop
(Sacramento) -- The foreclosure crisis continues to devastate families and neighborhoods in California. Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella) has organized a Home Foreclosure Prevention Workshop to help families deal with "underwater" mortgages and other foreclosure related issues. Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez Reacts to Governor’s State of the State Speech
(Sacramento) – After the Governor’s annual State of the State Address, Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella) said the Governor has provided state lawmakers with a reasonable starting point to close the $9.1 billion gap. Along with his Democratic colleagues, Assemblymember V. M. Pérez says he’s ready to work with the Governor to once again make the hard choices and the cuts necessary to balance the books, while still protecting the services, schools, and public safety most needed by California families. Critical Time for Salton Sea Restoration
(Mecca, CA) - At the request of Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella), the California Assembly Budget Sub-Committee 3 on Resources & Transportation visited the Coachella Valley to hold a hearing on the topic of Salton Sea Restoration. The purpose of this hearing was to provide the Sub-Committee with an accounting of funds used for restoration efforts at the Sea; determine the balance of funds remaining; discuss future funding needs and options; and consider the state's obligation and role in these efforts moving forward. Assemblymember Pérez told the committee, “We are facing a critical moment with regard to the Salton Sea…while we know that restoration is a complex and expensive undertaking, it's clear that inaction will be far more costly.” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
Assemblymember Manuel Pérez the Driving Force Behind Power Plant in Desert Hot Springs
(Sacramento) – The drive and determination of California State Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella) is the main reason Riverside County will soon have a new clean burning natural gas power plant. The project is expected to create 300 new construction jobs and generate millions in local tax revenues. The Sentinel "peaker" power plant is designed to backstop renewable sources and ensure energy reliability during times of peak load, helping California meet its goal of generating 33 percent of its power from renewable energy sources by the year 2020.
Assemblymember Perez Honors Marine Corps Veteran
(Sacramento) – Richard Partridge, Jr. served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Desert Storm. Now back in California, Partridge serves veterans in his community as a representative for the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program in the Imperial County area. That's why Assemblymember V. Water Safety Notification Bill Introduced
(Sacramento) – Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella), other legislators, safe water advocates, faith-based community members, concerned residents, and a UN expert held a press conference at the State Capitol to announce a package of bills to ensure all Californians have access to safe and clean drinking water. The six-bill package includes AB 938, authored by Pérez, which would ensure that all Californians receive proper notification about the safety of their drinking water in a language they understand.
