SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Marty Block announced today that Arlie Ricasa, President of the Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) Board of Trustees, was honored this week in the California State Legislature as the “Woman of the Year” from the 78th Assembly District. Block presented the award to Ricasa in a ceremony that was held in the Assembly chamber at the State Capitol.
Ricasa, Director of Student Development at Southwestern College and an educator for over 25 years, was recognized for her outstanding community service, unyielding advocacy and exceptional work with youth.
“Arlie is a remarkable college administrator, public servant, community volunteer, mother and wife who is a role model for youth and residents of our district,” praised Block.
“I am truly honored and humbled to receive this recognition from the Legislature and Assemblymember Block,” Ricasa said. “Working for our children, local residents, and underserved communities gives me fulfillment, joy and the sense of giving back to others.”
Ricasa, a mother of five school-age children, is currently serving her 12th year on the SUHSD Board of Trustees that oversees the nation’s largest secondary school district. She earned her Master’s Degree from San Diego State University and volunteers countless hours to community organizations such as the South Bay Family YMCA, Chula Vista Police Activities League and MAAC Project of San Diego County. Ricasa previously received honors including “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” and as one of the “Twenty Outstanding Filipino Americans in the United States and Canada”.
