(Sacramento, CA) – Assemblymember Roger Hernández (D – San Gabriel Valley) today sent Assembly Bills 1292 and 1382 to the Governor’s desk for signature.
First, AB 1292 would authorize the issuance of revenue bonds for deposit into the Safe Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SDWSRF) to satisfy federal matching requirements under the Safe Drinking Water Act. By doing so, California can continue to repair and improve its water infrastructure. This bill received bipartisan support as it was vetted through the state’s legislative process before heading to the Governor’s desk.
In addition, AB 1382 allows trained counselors to simultaneously administer FDA-approved forms of rapid HIV and Hepatitis C tests. 30 percent of patients who are infected with HIV are also co-infected with Hepatitis C. The Centers for Disease Control reports that of those who are infected with Hepatitis C, most are unaware they are infected with the disease. This bill also passed with bipartisan support in both the Assembly and the Senate houses.
The Governor will have until October 9 to sign these pieces of legislation.
