(Sacramento) -- California State Assemblymember Holly Mitchell (D-Culver City) conducted a two day work group with CalWORKS stakeholders to examine the effectiveness of the program and to re-examine its purpose in a meaningful way. As Chair of Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1, Assemblymember Mitchell oversees budget proposals for CalWORKS as well as other programs. Assemblymember Mitchell wanted to use this particular work group session to step back from specific budget proposals and a take broader view of the CalWORKS program and the children and families it serves.

Assemblymember Mitchell began with a quote from economic development expert, Ernesto Sirolli which was, "The first principal of aid is respect." She continued, "Our goal today is to listen, to learn and from that, to shape policy."
