California, your hormones just got a great gift from Assemblywoman Betsy Butler, who represents District 53. Butler authored a bill, the Toxin Free Infants and Toddlers Act, which Governor Jerry Brown just signed into law. This bill will strictly limit the amount of bisphenol-A in baby bottles, sippy cups, formula cans, and similar products, starting in July 1, 2013. Bisphenol-A, also known as BPA, is a chemical commonly found in plastics, food cans, soda cans, reusable water bottles, and plastic food storage containers. BPA has been implicated in an increasing number of health issues, including: lowered sperm count, insulin resistance, chromosome damage, obesity, breast cancer and infertility.
