SACRAMENTO – California State Assemblymembers unanimously approved Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 39 declaring May 22 “Fight Against Cancer Day” in honor of the American Cancer Society’s 100th birthday.

Introduced by Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno), ACR 39 recognizes the tremendous contributions The American Cancer Society has made in fighting cancer for the past century.

SACRAMENTO — A bill that would prohibit sex offenders from living, working, or volunteering in foster homes or state licensed facilities that serve children under 18 years of age was approved by the Assembly today.

Assembly Bill (AB) 1108 introduced by Assemblymembers Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno) and Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) along with Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), would make it a misdemeanor for any person required to register as a sex offender, to reside, work or volunteer in foster homes or facilities licensed by the State Department of Social Services or a county child welfare service agency. Offenders can be sentenced up to six months in county jail and/or fined up to $1,000.

“California’s fiscal health is on a steady path to recovery, but we must not lose sight of Californians’ values and priorities such as education. The Governor’s proposed Local Control Funding Formula would be a monumental change to how the State funds our schools because it targets additional resources to school districts that serve students with the greatest needs.  As proposed, the funding formula would benefit schools with the highest percentage of low-income students and English Learners.  In the Valley, this would be a turning point for students who have the potential to succeed in school, but have been lacking the support they need to achieve their goals.”

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno) is pleased to announce that two companies in the 31st Assembly District will receive nearly $60,000 from the state to further employee training in order to remain competitive with out-of-state businesses.

Gar Tootelian, the sixth largest AG retailer in California, will receive $49,456, while Weed Man, a locally-owned lawn care company will receive $8,250 from Employment Training Panel (ETP).

SACRAMENTO – An Assembly Bill (AB) that would extend the sunset dates for three successful state programs created to improve air quality and ensure investment in clean transportation technology has been approved by the Assembly Natural Resources Committee with a vote of 6 to 2.

AB 8, the 2013 Clean Fuels Reauthorization Act, introduced by Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno) and Assembly Rules Chair, Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley), would extend to January 1, 2024 the Carl Moyer Program, the local diesel emission reduction programs under AB 923 and the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program under AB 118.

AB 1309 Will Stop Abuse of Loophole Allowing Hundreds of Millions in Cash Workers’ Compensation Settlements to Non-California Players, Costing California Teams and Businesses

SACRAMENTO —Today, a bill to protect California’s Workers’ Compensation system from abuse of a costly loophole that has awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in cash settlements to out-of-state professional athletes was passed by the Assembly with a 61 to 4 vote.

Assembly Bill 1309, introduced by Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno) and co-authored by Assemblymember Curt Hagman (R-Chino Hills), Senator Ted W. Lieu (D-Torrance) and Senator Mark Wyland (R-Escondido), would set clear jurisdictional standards on claims from professional athletes and close the loophole that currently allows out-of-state players to file non-specific injury (or “cumulative trauma”) claims in California, regardless of whether they played for a California team or ever actually entered a California field of play.

A Recent US EPA Report Unveiled a $455 Million Surplus Highlighting Need for Streamlined Oversight

SACRAMENTO – An Assembly Bill that would provide a fresh start for the management of California’s water quality programs was approved in the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee today on a 5 to 2 vote.

Assembly Bill 145, introduced by Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno), would create a consolidated and comprehensive strategy to ensure safe drinking water for California residents by moving all drinking water programs from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to the State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board).

SACRAMENTO – An Assembly Bill that would help the San Joaquin River Conservancy (Conservancy) enforce its regulations was passed in the Assembly Public Safety Committee today on a 6 to 0 vote.

AB 618, introduced by Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno), would make changes to current law to provide local agencies responsible for protecting the Conservancy lands with the tools needed to enforce rules and regulations enacted by the Conservancy Board.

SACRAMENTO – An Assembly Bill that would extend the tax relief on forgiveness of mortgage debt by conforming California law to federal law was passed in the Assembly Revenue & Taxation Committee today.

Assembly Bill 42, introduced by Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno), will provide continued state income tax relief to borrowers who have had mortgage debt forgiven by their lender.

SACRAMENTO – An Assembly Bill that would ensure that persons who call in anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers organizations can remain anonymous was passed on the Assembly Floor today with a 74 to 0 vote.

Assembly Bill 1250, introduced by Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno), would ensure that tip information provided to Crime Stoppers or any private, non-profit volunteer which is forwarded to a law enforcement agency will be covered by the privilege.  As a result, both the “tip” itself and any and all records or documents of the tip would be protected under the privilege.
