Assemblymember Alejo Likes Governor’s Balanced Approach

(Sacramento) – Following the Governor’s annual State of the State address, Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) said he is ready to make the hard choices and tough cuts needed to balance the state’s books but supports the need to include new revenues in the equation. Assemblymember Alejo said the legislature will review the specific details of the Governor’s budget plan and hopes that Republicans will join with Democrats for the good of the state and support the Governor’s balanced approach to closing the state’s budget deficit. (Sacramento) – F Después de la presentación de la Cuenta Pública Anual del Estado del gobernador, el asambleísta Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) señaló que él está listo para llevar a cabo los fuertes recortes que se necesitan para balancear la caja fiscal del estado pero respalda la necesidad de incluir nuevos recursos en la ecuación. Alejo Asks Governor to Restore School Transportation Funding

(SACRAMENTO)— Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo (D-Salinas) is calling on Governor Brown to reconsider eliminating funding for Home-To-School Transportation.

A letter, signed by a bipartisan, bicameral group of 12 legislators from across the state, criticizes the Department of Finance’s decision to implement these cuts when the budget triggers were pulled last week.

Alejo accepts nominations for Woman of the Year

March is Women's History Month. To commemorate the outstanding women in our communities, Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo will name one leader from the district the 2012 Woman of the Year.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to submit nominations on or before January 27.

Editorial, our views: Alejo's wage bill makes sense

Minimum wage is one of those hot-button issues that generate rhetoric on both sides of the debate. Conservatives shout that it is government over-reach into the free market, which left alone will somehow compensate employees adequately. Liberals make the plea that unethical businesses will work their employees into servitude to support lavish bonuses and return handsome returns to investors.

Assemblyman Luis A. Alejo, D-Salinas, might have hit on a compromise that will satisfy all but the most extreme of the two ideologies: annual cost-of-living adjustments to the minimum wage.

Assemblymember Alejo Wants to Bring Jobs Back to America

(Sacramento) – Large American infrastructure projects are being awarded to companies overseas.  American companies say they can do the job and will hire thousands of American workers, which in turn will stimulate the ailing economy.  One of those big projects is in California.  In a special report on ABC News, Chris Cuomo spoke with California State Assemblymember Luis Alejo about the problem.  Alejo says, by not using American workers, our own government is hindering our economic recovery.  Learn more in this Assembly Assets Video.
