Internships Internship
Internship

The Office of Assemblyman Rich Gordon is seeking high school and college level students for part-time internships. The Assemblyman seeks students who are community-oriented, proactive, and have a genuine interest in public service. Internships will be based in the Los Altos district office.

Many elected officials and their staff gained their experience as interns. An internship is a valuable way to learn how government operates and how it can be utilized to serve the general population. Interns will have the opportunity to develop useful job skills, learn about state government and the legislative process, build resumes, and network with professionals who work in all levels of government, non-profit organizations, and community groups.

Duties:

  • Assist the district office staff with written communication
  • Serve as a constituent liaison with other state offices
  • Respond to constituent concerns and questions
  • Database organization
  • Staff meetings and outreach functions

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of state government and local issues
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Basic computer and internet knowledge
  • Capable of working independently and managing time effectively

All internship work is voluntary and students will not receive any monetary compensation. However, depending on their high school or college programs, students may receive school credit.

Please complete the application form and email it with a resume and cover letter to Anna Ko. In your cover letter, please indicate what your goals are in interning at a district office for the Assemblyman. The deadline for summer internship application is Monday, May 27th. Interviews for qualified applicants take place the weeks of Monday, June 3rd and Monday, June 10th. Expected start date is Monday, June 17th and the approximate end date is Friday, August 30th.
