TechAmerica Recognizes Four California Technology Champions for 2011 Featured

Sacramento, CA - TechAmerica, the leading national technology trade association, today announced that four legislators will receive its California Technology Champion Award. The Champions for 2011 are:

  • Assemblywoman Nora Campos (D – San Jose)
  • Senator Anthony Cannella (R – Ceres)
  • Assemblyman Jerry Hill (D – South San Francisco)
  • Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski (D – Fremont)

This award recognizes these legislators’ outstanding contributions to California’s technology industry during the 2011 legislative year and their commitment to job growth in this vital economic sector.

“All four of these legislators have proven themselves to be true technology champions,” said Robert Callahan, TechAmerica’s Director of California State Government Affairs. “They recognize that California’s technology industry is a critical part of the state’s economic recovery and they consistently support policies that will help California maintain its position as a global high-tech leader.”

"In addition to Assemblyman Hill’s continuing strong support for our industry, we are thrilled to see new technology leaders emerge in 2011 in Assemblywoman Campos, Senator Cannella, and Assemblyman Wieckowski,” Mr. Callahan continued. “Their steadfast commitment to creating high-tech jobs distinguishes them as accomplished leaders. We look forward to their continued leadership and support for the technology industry as we move forward in the 2012 legislative session.”

According to TechAmerica’s 2011 Cyberstates report, California continued to rank as the nation’s leading Cyberstate. California ranks first in both high-tech employment and high-tech wages, employing more than 900,000 workers at an average wage of over $110,000.

TechAmerica began recognizing state legislators for their contributions to the success of high-technology in 1991.
