SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Assemblymember Nora Campos (D-San José) this month passed her first piece of legislation, Assembly Concurrent Resolution 25, declaring March 2011 Arts Education Month in the State of California.
“To succeed in today's economy of ideas, students must master the use of words, images,
sounds and motion to communicate,” Assemblymember Campos, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media, said, “The arts provide the skills and knowledge students need to develop the creativity and determination necessary to succeed in today's global information age.”
The bill, which was supported by many arts education advocacy groups, was unanimously passed out of the Assembly on March 24, 2011 and out of the Senate on April 11, 2011 without a single opposing vote. On April 13, 2011 the Secretary of State chaptered this bill as resolution Chapter 12, Statues 2011.
