Sacramento – TechAmerica, a leading technology trade association, today named Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) as one of its California Technology Champions for 2011.

Wieckowski received the recognition along with Assemblymembers Nora Campos (D-San Jose) and Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo), and Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres).

“Working to maintain California’s global leadership on technology issues is a top priority of mine,” Assemblymember Wieckowski said.  “Our state’s future economic health is tied to our commitment to increasing our technology sector, investing in higher education, and creating policies that will sustain California as an innovation leader in technology fields.”

The award recognizes the legislators’ outstanding contributions to California’s technology industry during the 2011 legislative year and their commitment to job growth in this vital economic sector.

“Their steadfast commitment to creating high-tech jobs distinguishes them as accomplished leaders,” said Robert Callahan, TechAmerica’s director of California State Government Affairs, in the association’s news release.  “We look forward to their continued leadership and support for the technology industry as we move forward in the 2012 legislative session.”

Wieckowski is co-chair of the Assembly’s California Clean Energy Economy Select Committee and also a member of the Job Creation for the New Economy Select Committee.

He represents Fremont, Milpitas, Newark, Union City and parts of San Jose, Pleasanton, Hayward and Castro Valley in the state Assembly.

California ranks as the nation’s leading Cyberstate, according to TechAmerica’s 2011 Cyberstates report.  The Golden State ranks first in high-tech employment and high-tech wages, employing more than 900,000 workers at an average wage of over $110,000.
