Assemblywoman Bonilla Supports On-Time, Improved Budget
SACRAMENTO - Statement of Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) on the Legislature’s approval today of the 2013-14 state budget:
“My colleagues and I have approved a budget that enables the state to continue to ‘live within its means,’ and is a significant improvement over the Governor’s original proposal. I am pleased that it accepts many of the recommendations made by the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, which I chair.
Bonilla Bill Granting Women the Right for Equal Treatment in Medical Research Passes Senate Health Committee
SACRAMENTO - A bill by Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord), which will create equity in the field of medical research compensation, has passed the Senate Health Committee. Assembly Bill 926 removes the prohibition on compensation for women participating in egg donation for medical research.
Most medical research subjects are compensated for their time, trouble, and inconvenience involved in participating in clinical studies. Bonilla’s legislation would ensure that women are treated equally to all other research subjects - allowing them to actively evaluate their participation in these studies.
Bonilla Bill Preventing Identity Theft, Counterfeiting and Consumer Fraud Passes Senate Committee
SACRAMENTO – Legislation by Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) to provide the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) with more tools to prevent crimes associated with identity theft, counterfeiting, and consumer fraud, passed today in the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee.
Bonilla’s legislation, Assembly Bill 908, strengthens the DMV database by allowing staff of DMV’s Investigations Division to access records by the Employment Development Department (EDD) to contact perpetrators and victims of crime.
Senate Policy Committee Approves Bipartisan Bill to Protect Young Athletes
SACRAMENTO – The Senate Public Safety Committee today passed with unanimous support a bill by Assemblymembers Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) and Brian Maienschein (R-San Diego) to protect children who participate in youth sports programs from sexually abusive and violent individuals.
Currently, there is great inconsistency across the state on background checks for volunteer coaches. Some youth sports leagues conduct background checks on all candidates while others do not perform any review of their criminal backgrounds.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) recognized Claudia and Stuart Wentworth of Quick Mount PV as the “14th Assembly District Small Business of the Year,” at a ceremony yesterday at the Sacramento Convention Center.
Claudia and Stuart Wentworth are the founders and CEO and CTO respectively of Quick Mount PV, which manufactures roof-friendly mounting systems for solar energy panels. Based in Walnut Creek, Quick Mount PV employs 70 people in its 90,000 sq. ft. headquarters where it fabricates all of the company’s products.

CONCORD - Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla has named Kate Ertz-Berger as the 14th Assembly District Woman of the Year. Ertz-Berger received her award at Friday’s “Women on the Move” reception hosted by Assemblywoman Bonilla in Concord.
Assembly Passes Bonilla Bills to Expand Access to Higher Education, Improve Student Testing Methods and Boost Funding for Common Core Implementation
SACRAMENTO – The California Assembly approved three bills by Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord), aimed at improving California’s education system by offering more options for students to earn Cal Grant awards, improve school testing methods to better measure students’ academic progress, and increase funding for schools to implement new academic standards and technology.
Together, these three bills will help ensure our children receive a high quality education that points them towards rewarding careers in the fast-changing 21st century workforce.
Assembly Approves Bonilla Bill to Bring Back License Plates for California Veterans
SACRAMENTO – The California Assembly today gave unanimous approval to AB 244, a bill introduced by Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord), which will reestablish the “Veterans” license plate for Californians who have served in the armed forces.
“Several veterans have expressed a desire to be able to purchase a California license plate that specifically identifies them as a veteran,” said Assemblywoman Bonilla. “That is why I have been partnering with many veterans organizations in carrying this bill. Not only will it create this distinctive plate to properly recognize their service and sacrifice, but it will increase funding to County Veteran Service Offices to ensure that veterans have access to their guaranteed benefits including employment, retirement, medical and housing assistance.”
Assembly approves Bonilla bill to make California more competitive for federal housing grants
SACRAMENTO – Today, the Assembly gave bipartisan approval to a bill by Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) that will help California’s transitional housing providers be more competitive for federal funding.
Bonilla’s legislation, AB 1109, addresses a recently adopted shift by the federal government to combat homelessness by prioritizing permanent housing, rather than transitional housing. As a result, the federal government has made available bonus money through the McKinney Vento Act to support permanent housing for homeless individuals.
Assemblywoman Bonilla leads effort to boost funding for Common Core development and early childhood education
SACRAMENTO - Statement from Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) on today’s key actions by the Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 2 on Education Finance on the Governor’s proposed budget for 2013-14:
“The Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance took action today on two underfunded areas that need higher priority in the Governor’s proposed budget. I voted to approve $1.5 billion for Common Core professional development and technology upgrades for California schools – an increase from the Governor’s original $1 billion proposal that was announced last week in his revised 2013-14 state budget. Our students deserve this opportunity to be challenged by standards that require analytical thinking, and this targeted use of one time money provides educators with the tools to advance instruction and integrate technology into the learning environment.
