Sacramento - The Regional Council of Rural Counties (RCRC) announced that it has selected Assemblywoman Alyson Huber (D-El Dorado Hills) as one of two recipients for the annual "Patti Mattingly Award" for 2010. The Patti Mattingly Award is given to a policymaker that has demonstrated leadership on rural issues and an understanding of the unique challenges that rural communities face.
"RCRC appreciates the important work of Assemblywoman Huber on behalf of her rural constituents," said Supervisor Diane Dillon of Napa County and Chair of the Regional Council of Rural Counties. "The residents of Amador County and the other rural portions of her district should know that she served them well in a very difficult 2010 Legislative Session."
RCRC's Patti Mattingly Award was established in memory of former Supervisor Patti Mattingly of Siskiyou County for her tremendous courage, commitment, and ability to promote constructive solutions surrounding rural issues. The recipient is selected by the RCRC Board of Directors.
"RCRC applauds Assemblywoman Huber's efforts this past year," added Supervisor Richard Forster of Amador County. "She was instrumental in working with a number of other rural legislators to secure the passage of an exemption for counties under 50,000 in population from experiencing deferrals in state payments to counties. Had this not happened, small counties like Amador would have faced a severe financial crisis."
In addition, Assemblywoman Huber's other important actions in the State Legislature include:
- Securing vital law enforcement monies for several years for rural counties;
- Authoring Assembly Bill 580, which addressed septic tanks regulations being issued by the State Water Resources Control Board
In addition to Assemblywoman Huber, Assemblywoman Connie Conway (R-Tulare) was also selected to receive the Patti Mattingly Award.
RCRC is an association of 30 rural counties that advocates before the Legislature, Congress and state and federal government agencies on behalf of rural issues. Headquartered in Sacramento, county supervisors comprise RCRC's governing board.
