California agriculture is a powerhouse industry, valued annually at $36.6 billion and generating an additional $100 billion in related economic activity. California farmers literally feed people throughout the world! As a global enterprise, both conventional and new farming practices have developed over time to meet ever-changing conditions and market demand.
Organic farming is now the fastest growing sector in U.S. agriculture. As organic products have grown in popularity, so too has the interest in the impact our farming methods have on our health and environment. As the leading organic producer in the nation with more than 430,000 acres, California has a responsibility to examine the issues surrounding this burgeoning industry.
As the Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Sustainable and Organic Agriculture, my fellow committee members and I look forward to examining a variety of issues in partnership with organic producers and consumers.
Access to safe and healthy food is a matter of food equity and foundational to sustaining future generations. Please take a look at the links below to learn more about the wonderful world of organics!
