Assemblymember Dickinson to Attend Democratic National Convention, Available for Media Interviews in Charlotte, NC
Sacramento –Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento) will travel to Charlotte, NC to attend and serve as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention from September 3rd through 6th.
“I am excited to serve as a delegate from Sacramento to this year’s historic Democratic Convention,” said Dickinson. “With the country’s economy continuing its recovery and our President providing crucial leadership, this election could not be more critical. I look forward to renominating President Obama and Vice President Biden and joining my fellow Californians in this fundamental exercise of our political process.”
Dickinson Resolution Establishes September as Food Literacy Awareness Month
Dickinson Hosting Food Literacy Fair September 22
Sacramento – Today, Assemblymember Roger Dickinson’s (D-Sacramento) Assembly Concurrent Resolution 161 was approved by the Senate. The resolution has previously been approved by the Assembly and is now enrolled. ACR 161 establishes every September as Food Literacy Month in California.
“Educating the public, especially children, about food literacy is important because it has the ability to address the growing obesity epidemic,” said Assemblymember Dickinson. “The goal of this resolution is to raise public awareness about eating healthy and the impact nutrition has on our health as well as the health of our families, our environment, and our communities,” he added.
Dickinson Bill to Add Local Representation on the Air Resources Board Sent to the Governor
Sacramento – Today, Assemblymember Roger Dickinson’s (D-Sacramento) Assembly Bill 146 was approved by the State Assembly on a 46-21 bipartisan concurrence vote and now goes to the Governor for his signature. The bill would add an additional member to the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
“The Sacramento region is the largest major metropolitan area in the state without designated representation on the Air Resources Board. AB 146 will allow our region to have a voice in critical future decision-making to improve our local air quality,” said Assemblymember Dickinson.
Assemblymember Dickinson School Discipline Reform Bill Sent to the Governor
Sacramento – Today, Assembly Bill 2242 by Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento) was approved by the Assembly on a bipartisan concurrence vote of 42-23. AB 2242 would remove the reference to “willful defiance” as a reason a student may be subject to extended suspensions and expulsions from school. The bill now goes to the Governor for his action.
“AB 2242 would help schools trying to increase student attendance and achievement and help keep students who are struggling with behavior in class and on track,” said Dickinson, Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Delinquency Prevention and Youth Development. “With the Governor’s signature, we would bring fairness and balance to our school disciplinary practices – without risking school and teacher safety. More mindless tough discipline is not the answer, and AB 2242 is a step in the right direction.”

Improves Cross-Agency Coordination for More Effective Delivery of Services to Children
Sacramento – Today, Assemblymember Roger Dickinson’s (D-Sacramento) Assembly Bill 823 was approved by the State Assembly on a 48-27 concurrence vote and now goes to the Governor for his signature. The bill would establish the California Children’s Coordinating Council to foster greater coordination, collaboration, and efficiency of state services for children, youth, and their families.
“I authored this bill because California’s children deserve access to quality public programs and we can better achieve this goal by working in a collaborative and coordinated manner,” said Assemblymember Dickinson. “Investing in our children should be a priority for the state, especially when we’re making policy and funding decisions with such limited resources.”
Dickinson Bill to Help Prevent Athlete Sexual Abuse Sent to the Governor with Unanimous Bipartisan Support
Sacramento – Assembly Bill 1435 by Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento) was approved today by the State Assembly on a unanimous bipartisan vote. The bill requires that all athletic coaches, administrators and directors be mandatory reporters for purposes of complying with the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. Throughout the legislative process, AB 1435 received no “no” votes. The bill now goes to the Governor for his action.
“The close relationship between coach and athlete should never be exploited to hurt a child and we need to do all we can to prevent it,” said Assemblymember Dickinson. “With this bill, athletic coaches will be better prepared to assist those children who may be subject to unthinkable acts, and hopefully this results in fewer instances of this terrible problem,” he added.
Dickinson Bill to Include LGBT-Owned Businesses in State Contracting Database Sent to the Governor
Sacramento – Today, Assemblymember Roger Dickinson’s (D-Sacramento) Assembly Bill 1960 was approved by the Assembly on a 46-27 vote. The bill would require that information about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) owned business enterprises be included along with information about minority, women, and disadvantaged business enterprises as reported by the California Department of General Services. The bill now goes to the Governor for his signature.
“AB 1960 helps break down discriminatory barriers facing LGBT business owners by recognizing the size and value of their contribution to our economy,” said Assemblymember Dickinson. “With the Governor’s signature, California will be the first state to have a law dedicated to the advancement of LGBT-owned businesses.”
